What is a Fulgurite?
Fulgurite is created when lightening strikes soil or sand or rock
and creates a root like object as the superheated lightning channel
fused desert sans into glass tubing.
The power and heat of the lightening strike fuses the soil into
solid rock, often with a hollow glassy core. Most available Fulgurite
is formed from sand and small rocks and the specimens are sometimes
small, fragile and rather uniform and other times larger 1”
to 2”diameter varying lengths and shapes The fulgurite fans
out from the point of impact, repeatedly splitting and forming
ever smaller branches, just like the roots of a tree.
The following items are from a unique find. A woman saw a tremendous
lightning strike in a riverbed on the east side of Tucson, Arizona,
later she excavated the strike site, now some of these unique
pieces are available to the collector through this web site and
our shop. Take a good look the pictures tell all.
